we jump on this house & techno bandwagon with maimultmodelat, a 12 minute piece stripped down to its hihat backbone, with the focus points centered here & there on the wobbly bassline and the sharp cut kicks. as for the side b, a more textured journey awaits us: soustra, encapsulating its warmth deep into the fading melodic strips and the fast paced walkabout, a breaks sequence that could easily hyopnotize the crowd with its electro reminiscences hidden under the percussions layer.

french producer keumel makes a poised vinyl debut on the inner balance imprint, with three originals of fine skipping house and a remix by imprints head domenico rosa. “laïka” is an afternoon space-walk in the vein of vintage derek carr, its synths, hats and mid-track acid line surfing light and breezy over a scudding, bumping bassline. rosa’s remix strikes a more contemplative note by placing a soft breakbeat under the acid line and airborne pads. “no chill” is a fast-tempo stripped-down house jam that kicks to the sound of the label’s father figure chez damier and his contemporaries. “space birds” rounds out the ep by building a slowburn groove out of which a lightly-warped acid line slinks part-way through.

jackie is a biographical film from chilean director pablo larraín. starring natalie portman (black swan) in the title role, the movie follows jacqueline kennedy from the days when she was first lady of the white house to the aftermath of the assassination of john f. kennedy. critically lauded since its debut at the venice film festival where it won the best screenplay award, jackie also received the platform prize at the toronto international film festival and is a heavy favorite going into awards season.
the score to jackie was composed by experimental british musician mica levi, best known for her ethereal score to 2013’s sleeper hit under the skin. mournful and eerie with a touch of the surreal, levi has delivered an unmistakable musical tapestry every bit as iconic as jackie o herself.
jackie is getting the vinyl treatment. the mastered-for-vinyl score is pressed on 180 gram black vinyl and housed in a heavy stock euro sleeve featuring black-and-white artwork of jackie. a download card containing a digital version of the album is also included.

they are dangerous is the second song released by senator gary. the riddim was build by the late great keyboard player winston wright (1944-1993) and the vocal was recorded at creative sound studio. the tune was produced by neville reid who died a few years ago. senator gary is also called imara, abbasani and now he is voicing under the name of i-maa-raa. so the quest to find him was not so easy, thanks to marshall neeko for the help.

this release sees mark archer raiding the altern8 vaults to find previously unreleased material he produced in 1992 under his dj nex moniker, and pairing it with a new track he’s written specially for the release.

a year after his last outing on the label, metamethod is back with a second ep for nightime drama. the man born simon haynes is a veteran of the scene who has worked under many different aliases and is now back at the techno frontline, creating the same sort of powerful grooves that made him so essential back in the 90s. ‘exoshift’ opens things up with a lurching, low sung beat that rocks back and forth as frazzled synths and rusty frequencies skate about up top. it’s body music that really makes a mark while ‘autofac’ then slips into more of a forward moving groove with prickly percussion and woodpecker hits all driving along a bleak techno landscape. last of all, ‘superlifter’ marries bulky, broken sounding drums with celestial pads that glow white amongst the murk and greyness of the rest for he track. it is atmospheric, grainy techno for serious heads only.

madame e. is a musical setting of georges bataille’s “madame edwarda”, a short novel that interlaces themes of eroticism, religiosity and death, and was written under the pseudonym pierre angelique in 1941, during the occupation of paris. composer mirco magnani wrote eleven electronic pieces and presented them to actor/singer ernesto tomasini. they turned them into songs by adding vocal melodies and together they produced a libretto based on bataille’s french text. the result of their dynamic interpretation is a hypnotically spellbinding performance where the audience is transported through worlds – ancient and new – and where tomasini’s haunting falsetto conveys the tormented emotions in bataille’s work and becomes the instrument that articulates the writer’s famously obscure themes.

rhythm plate released one of the best releases on hudd traxx in 2007, half of rp returns under the guise of goshawk for hudd 055. matt brings astral t back with him for the a1 track and my heart certainly gives inside me a run for it s money. warm chords, lush vocals and slick beats are all laid down to perfection to kick off the ep in fine style.a2 follows the deep tones set on a1 with the wonderful high in the evergreens. the b side kicks off in a more upbeat style with yes in this way which would fit nicely in a derrick carter peak time set. goshawk finishes off with a cheeky garage number that is reminiscent of grant nelson s early work on nice n ripe which can only be a good thing.

alexander palmestal was fifty procent of the electro duo pistol disco - a band that during the 00’s bustled around in the music scene of gothenburg and became known for having a certain sound and for their unpredictable and often magical live shows. the later incarnation of the band took a step away from the german 70’s influences to move towards a more club friendly universe. in 2015 the band released the 7inch goo/pool on hoga nord rekords which was their last release and now palmestal, under the name mythologen, make a release on hoga nord rekords.

michigan artist john beltran s 13th studio album and 3rd on delsin is his most complete and personal work yet. written largely on modular synthesizers for the first time, it melts 90s intelligent techno with post rock and ambient with leftfield downtempo. the seventeen tracks draw on his expert knack for sound design, for melody and atmosphere and make for yet another hugely absorbing affair.

vanta series is the new series for killekill’s dancefloor music. the releases come in series, every series comes with a theme and one artwork which is being split in several parts to go with each release. the first series is called “the end is near” and features four records. it comes with an artwork by french visual artist elzo durt. vanta 003 comes from eomac under his alias eeoo. eeoo is a side project for what is, in eomac’s mind, straight up, techno-rave-house-jungle- disco influenced, dancefloor material. it draws influence from classic styles of dance music. less dense, less conceptual than the eomac-music. less focussed on texture and atmosphere, a more direct approach for sweaty ravers and moving bodies.

the second release on our recently launched label comes from no other than our unique ricardo villalobos, under his germanized moniker richard wolfsdorf. besides being a world touring dj and headlining the best clubs and festivals around the planet, he has been a reference producer for everyone interested in forward thinking dance music over the last one and a half decades. at mdrnty we all love his music, dj sets and personality and he has been a key player at our events for many years, so it is with great honour that we welcome him on our new label. faithful to his style, he offers us an over 20 minutes length song divided in two sides. featuring canadian singer beaver sheppard, fiva is a mind bending minimalistic trip. beavers mumbling voices add the perfect balance to ricardos abstraction and hypnotism. once more ricardo shows us how much can be said with only a few elements and how deep it is possible to dive and wonder into his sparse music landscape.

the electronic based pop group, shari vari, founded by helena ratka and sophia kennedy, is about to release its first ep, life should be a holiday, of 5 pieces produced and recorded by the duo under broke and alcoholic circumstances. each piece deals with the traditional forms of song writing by ignoring them – the rules and structures. combining psychedelic lyrics and chords with dark electronic sounds, the beats are weird and stubborn: a teenage crush on a white cat while drowning in a pool. you’ll never want to go to work again: too many psychos in one streetcar are just too hard to handle on an empty stomach. look forward to plunge into the world of shari vari, so hit the booze and run! taste me is a 1981 obscure instrumental library music album and a weird example of italo funk disco played by professional musicians (most of them under pseudonym) involved also in many different musical projects (from jazz, progressive rock and disco music). the lp includes the killer disco funk dont stop it. repressed in limited edition with original artwork for the first time since 1981. dont miss it.
